Peruvian Woman Arrested for Drug Smuggling in Bali: Concealed in Unusual Locations
Bali police bring to light a troubling case involving the smuggling of drugs through unconventional means.
In an alarming incident at Bali’s international airport, a 42-year-old woman from Peru, referred to only by her initials N.S., has been apprehended under serious drug-related charges. Authorities reported that she attempted to smuggle approximately $70,000 worth (£52,000) of cocaine and ecstasy, cleverly concealed within her bra, underwear, and even a sex toy.
The woman was detained by customs officials who noticed her suspicious behavior upon arrival. Radiant, the head of Bali's narcotics unit, explained that the drugs were meticulously hidden: “Six plastic packages wrapped in black duct tape were tucked inside a green bra, three packages in black underwear, and a sex toy containing drugs was inserted into her body.”
Upon questioning, N.S. revealed that she had been promised $19,000 in exchange for transporting the narcotics into Bali, a deal arranged by an individual she met on the dark web in April. She had flown from Barcelona, Spain to Bali, with a layover in Doha, arriving at the airport on August 12.
In Indonesia, drug smuggling offenses carry severe penalties, and the woman could face the death penalty if convicted. This follows the country’s strict laws that have previously led to the executions of foreign nationals for similar offenses, although a temporary moratorium on the death penalty has been in effect since 2017. Recently, three British citizens narrowly avoided the death sentence after being convicted of smuggling cocaine disguised as packets of a dessert mix into Indonesia.
