Tragic Plane Crash Claims Six Lives in Nairobi

A devastating plane crash in Nairobi has resulted in the deaths of six individuals, including charity medical staff and innocent bystanders. Investigators are currently on-site to determine the cause of the accident.

A tragic incident unfolded in Nairobi when a small medical aircraft belonging to Amref Flying Doctors crashed shortly after takeoff, claiming the lives of six people. The Cessna plane departed from Wilson Airport on Thursday afternoon, destined for Hargeisa in Somalia. However, it lost both radio and radar contact with air traffic control just three minutes post-departure, leading to fears of an impending disaster.

The crash occurred in the Githurai area, impacting a residential building and igniting a fire upon landing. Local officials, including Kiambu County Commissioner Henry Wafula, reported that four individuals aboard the aircraft, consisting of doctors, nurses, and the pilot, perished in the crash. Additionally, two people on the ground were also killed, while two others sustained serious injuries.

In response to the incident, authorities quickly dispatched investigators to the crash site to ascertain the cause of the disaster. Stephen Gitau, CEO of Amref, expressed his sorrow in a statement, affirming the organization’s commitment to cooperating with the relevant aviation authorities and emergency response teams during the investigation.

Eyewitness Patricia Kombo recounted the terrifying moments leading up to the crash, describing a loud bang and a sudden flash of light before smoke began to fill the area as chaos erupted. The tragedy highlights ongoing concerns about aviation safety in the region.
