Severe Turbulence Injures Eight on Ryanair Flight Diverted to Germany
Passengers faced a turbulent experience that led to injuries and a diversion to Memmingen airport.
A Ryanair flight from Berlin to Milan encountered severe turbulence on Wednesday night, prompting a diversion to Memmingen airport in southern Germany. According to Bavarian police, eight passengers were injured, including a two-year-old child who sustained bruises and a woman with a head injury. Emergency services were activated, with three individuals requiring hospitalization, while the rest received on-site treatment.
The plane landed safely at Memmingen at 20:44 local time after the captain had informed local authorities of the necessity for medical assistance ahead of landing. Difficult weather conditions prevented a landing at the larger Munich Airport, necessitating the diversion.
In a statement, Ryanair expressed regret for the incident, highlighting their commitment to passenger safety and welfare. The airline arranged alternative transportation to Milan for affected travelers and scheduled a replacement flight for the next morning. The flight carried a total of 179 passengers and six crew members, and all onboard were assessed for potential injuries as a precautionary measure.
