Plane Crash at Toronto Pearson Airport: Passengers Share Harrowing Experiences
Eyewitnesses recount the terrifying moments when a Delta Air Lines flight crashed upon landing.
Yesterday, passengers aboard a Delta Air Lines flight arriving from Minneapolis experienced a terrifying incident as the plane crashed and flipped during its landing at Toronto Pearson International Airport. Miraculously, all 80 individuals, including 76 passengers and four crew members, survived. The chief executive at Pearson said that 18 passengers sustained injuries, though none were described as critical.
John Nelson, one of the passengers, shared his experience in a video posted shortly after the accident, stating, "Our plane crashed. It's upside down." He described the moments leading up to the crash, emphasizing that nothing seemed unusual prior to landing. According to Nelson, the aircraft skidded on its side before flipping over. "There was a big fireball out the left side of the plane," he added, indicating the precarious situation they were in, “We were upside down hanging like bats,” said fellow passenger Peter Koukov.
Some passengers managed to free themselves from their restraints, while others required assistance. Video one online showed individuals climbing out of the overturned aircraft, as firefighters responded to the scene, dousing the plane with foam to prevent any further fire.
Interestingly, Diane Perry, who was in the airport at the time, noted the irony of learning about the crash through family members while she checked in. "It was kind of ironic that we were in the airport and didn't know that there was a crash outside,” she remarked.
As authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, two of the airport's runways will remain closed, leading to potential delays for travelers. Nelson reflected on the ordeal, admitting, "It's amazing that we're still here," and expressed his ongoing feelings of stress and nervousness following the incident.
