In a harrowing court case in South Carolina, Jamie Lee Komoroski pleaded guilty to charges related to a tragedy that unfolded on a joyful day. Just hours after marrying Samantha Miller, the bride was killed in a golf cart accident caused by Komoroski, who was under the influence of alcohol at the time. As the newlyweds were returning to their accommodations post-ceremony, disaster struck when Komoroski, driving at 65 mph in a 25 mph zone, collided with their vehicle.
The somber incident took place in Folly Beach in April 2023, leaving not only Miller deceased but also her husband, Aric Hutchinson, and two family members with serious injuries. Hutchinson expressed his deep sorrow in court, recalling his last moment with his wife, who had been hopeful that their wedding night would last forever. “On the golf cart, she told me she didn’t want the night to end,” he recounted, breaking down as he faced the harsh reality that his new wife was irretrievably gone.
Komoroski, previously reported to have consumed alcohol at various bars, had blood alcohol content three times the legal limit, as determined by post-accident testing. She initially refused to supply a breath sample when questioned by police, further exacerbating the situation. In light of her actions, the court handed down a sentence of 25 years, with multiple charges including felony DUI resulting in death.
During her address to the court, Komoroski expressed her remorse and accepted full responsibility for the incident. Aric Hutchinson, who suffered serious injuries including a brain injury, indicated that while he believed Komoroski felt genuine regret, it would not bring back his beloved wife or mend the pain that had been inflicted upon his family. Following the sentencing, he stated, "I do think she’s sorry... that doesn’t change the fact that Sam’s not here."
