Prime Minister Keir Starmer of Britain has made a notable policy reversal concerning proposed adjustments to social welfare benefits. Under increasing pressure from party critics, Starmer announced on Friday a retreat from changes to the eligibility criteria for payments to disabled individuals, which were projected to impact hundreds of thousands.

The intended reforms were originally aimed at addressing the spiraling costs of the welfare system, with an anticipated savings of around 5 billion pounds (approximately $6.9 million).
