Iran executed Yasin Hosseinzadeh on Wednesday, who was found guilty of murdering the head of security at the Azerbaijani Embassy during a violent incident in 2023, as reported by Mizan, the Iranian judiciary's official outlet. The embassy attack significantly heightened tensions between Azerbaijan and Iran, two neighboring countries with a history of strained relations.

Hosseinzadeh, an Iranian national, had claimed personal motivations for his actions, as he believed his wife was taking refuge within the embassy and refused to see him. However, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev described the incident as a terrorist act. Following his sentencing, the Iranian supreme court upheld his death sentence, which was carried out after lengthy proceedings.
