**Harvey Weinstein Faces Retrial as Victims Speak Out Against Hollywood Abuse**

Prosecutors detail allegations of sexual misconduct in Weinstein's third trial amid continuing fallout from the #MeToo movement.

Harvey Weinstein's retrial begins with accusations from three women, asserting he exploited his power in Hollywood to enact sexual abuse.

In a courtroom filled with tension, Harvey Weinstein, the former film mogul ensnared in a web of sexual abuse allegations, is back on trial in New York. Prosecutors opened the proceedings by accusing Weinstein of wielding his considerable influence in Hollywood to sexually harass three women, with Assistant District Attorney Shannon Lucey asserting, "The defendant wanted their bodies, and the more they resisted, the more forceful he got."

This retrial marks Weinstein's third attempt to clear his name in five years, following a previous conviction that was overturned last year. He now faces new charges stemming from allegations by a former television production assistant, an aspiring actress, and a model. They recount their experiences of being drawn into meetings with Weinstein, only to find themselves subjected to unwanted advances and assault.

Weinstein, who has pled not guilty, is defended by attorney Arthur Aidala, who sought to challenge the credibility of the accusers. "The prosecution's case will fall flat on its face," Aidala claimed, suggesting the jury would find inconsistencies in the women's testimonies. He framed their testimonies as potentially motivated by financial gain and alleged they had engaged in "mutually beneficial" relationships with Weinstein.

The retrial features testimony from actress Jessica Mann and former production assistant Miriam Haley, as well as Kaja Sokola, a former model who claims Weinstein assaulted her when she was just 16 years old. Prosecutors argue that Weinstein exploited his powerful status, emphasizing that he operated as a "Hollywood gatekeeper" for over 30 years.

As the trial unfolds, Lucey continued to recount the harrowing experiences of the women who felt compelled to keep their trauma hidden due to Weinstein's clout in the film industry. The allegations brought against him have collectively fueled the #MeToo movement, encouraging other survivors to step forward.

Weinstein, 73, is currently receiving medical treatment, including care for cancer and diabetes, following a heart surgery. His attorneys have petitioned for him to remain in a hospital setting rather than return to the notorious Rikers Island facility, which has been criticized for its conditions.

Despite facing multiple convictions and civil lawsuits involving accusations of harassment from more than 100 women, Weinstein's pending trials could ensure he remains behind bars for life. As the retrial progresses, the testimonies of these three women reveal a darker side of the entertainment industry and echo the collective awakening against sexual misconduct perpetrated by powerful figures.
