UK to Host 2035 Women's World Cup as FIFA Confirms Bidding Process
The joint bid from the UK's football associations secures a historic future for women's sports.
The United Kingdom is set to stage the 2035 Women's World Cup, as FIFA has announced it received only one valid proposal—the joint bid from the UK nations of Scotland, Wales, England, and Northern Ireland. Launched in March, this collaborative endeavor has garnered approval from FIFA, which emphasized that the tournament is to be held in either Europe or Africa.
While there were initial discussions about a potential bid from Spain, along with Portugal and Morocco, FIFA President Gianni Infantino confirmed that no other valid bids were submitted. This paves the way for the UK's historic role in hosting the global event.
Gianni Infantino noted the opportunities surrounding the upcoming Women's World Cup events, stating, "The path is there for the Women's World Cup in 2031 and 2035 to take place in some great nations and further boost the women's football movement." For 2031, the United States will be the host, with an expansion to 48 teams competing, increasing from the 32 teams that will participate in the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
The countdown begins for 2035, promising to bring more focus and recognition to women’s sports on a global scale, fostering growth and interest that could reshape the future of women's football.
