Andrew Tate Released from House Arrest Amid Ongoing Criminal Trials
Andrew Tate now free under judicial control as he faces serious criminal allegations in Romania.
Controversial influencer Andrew Tate has been released from house arrest, according to his spokesman, following a ruling by a Romanian court. Instead of being confined to his home, Tate, 38, is now under judicial control, which permits him to travel within Romania while complying with certain legal conditions. He is currently facing a range of serious allegations including human trafficking, sexual exploitation of minors, and money laundering, alongside his brother Tristan. Both brothers have categorically denied all claims against them.
The move to release Tate from house arrest follows his initial confinement that began in August when Romanian prosecutors launched a second criminal investigation targeting him, his brother, and four additional suspects. The accusations against them mainly revolve around trafficking minors and sexual exploitation. Despite the gravity of the charges, they continue to maintain their innocence.
Previously, a Bucharest court ruled that a separate case involving the brothers related to human trafficking could not proceed as it currently stood, sending it back for review. The Tates also face serious allegations of rape and human trafficking in the UK, where authorities are pursuing extradition of the dual UK-US nationals. In Romania, a judge indicated that any extradition request would be considered only after the ongoing legal proceedings conclude.
Moreover, the brothers have been implicated in tax evasion in the UK. A British court recently permitted police to seize over £2 million ($2.4 million) from the Tates due to unpaid taxes related to roughly £21 million generated via their online businesses. Andrew Tate has labeled this court ruling as "not justice" and suggested it is part of a "coordinated attack" against him. Known for his provocative views, particularly on women—views that have led to multiple social media bans—Tate's complex legal battles continue to make headlines while he resides in Romania.
