Driver Executed for Deadly Car Attack in Southern China
In a shocking incident, a man responsible for a devastating car attack that took the lives of 35 individuals has been executed by Chinese authorities.
A man convicted of causing mass casualties in a car attack has been executed in China, state media confirmed. Fan Weiqiu, aged 62, drove his vehicle into a crowd engaged in exercise outside a stadium in Zhuhai on November 11, resulting in the deaths of at least 35 people and injuring many others. This incident is considered the deadliest attack on Chinese soil in a decade.
The court reported that Fan's motivation stemmed from a "dissatisfaction" regarding the division of his property post-divorce. Following his conviction of "endangering public safety," Fan orchestrated a horrific attack that was labeled as "extremely vile" and "particularly cruel" by the judiciary.
His execution came swiftly, occurring less than a month after he was sentenced to death. The Zhuhai incident was part of a larger trend in 2024, which saw 19 separate attacks on strangers throughout China, two of which occurred just a week following the devastating event in Zhuhai.
