At least one person has died and several others sustained injuries following a serious train crash in southern Denmark, where a train collided with a slurry tanker and subsequently derailed. The incident occurred between Tinglev and Kliplev in southern Jutland, as confirmed by local authorities.
Local media outlet TV2 reported that helicopters have been dispatched to the scene, where officials indicated the train struck a slurry tanker at a level crossing. The national rail operator DSB announced an immediate suspension of services between Tinglev and Sønderborg, close to the German border.
Images captured from the site depicted a train carriage overturned, with passengers milling around the tracks. Among the 95 passengers on board were school students traveling from Sønderborg. Two of the injured were transported via helicopter for medical assistance. The national rail agency Banedanmark communicated through social media platform X that the incident occurred at a railway crossing, and reports indicate at least two of the train carriages were derailed as a result of the collision.
Emergency crews are on the scene, and investigations into the cause of the accident are currently underway.
