Inauguration Day Plans Altered Due to Severe Cold Weather
Donald Trump's inauguration to be held indoors as D.C. faces dangerously low temperatures.
As temperatures in Washington D.C. threaten to drop to a chilling low of -11C (12F) on January 20, President-elect Donald Trump has made the decision to move his inaugural address and associated events indoors. Previously scheduled to occur outside the US Capitol, the inaugural address along with speeches and the traditional parade will now be held within the rotunda of the Capitol. The parade has been relocated to Capitol One Arena, where attendees can also watch the address live.
In a post made on his Truth Social platform, Trump expressed concern for the safety of citizens and first responders during the dangerous weather conditions, stating it "is dangerous conditions for tens of thousands." He emphasized his desire to prevent any injuries amid the freezing temperatures and urged potential attendees to "dress warmly" if they choose to come out.
This move marks the first indoor inauguration since Ronald Reagan's swearing-in in 1985, also necessitated by cold weather. By prioritizing safety for thousands of law enforcement teams, support staff, and attendees, Trump aims for a jubilant and secure celebration. "Everyone will be safe, everyone will be happy," he reassured supporters, while reaffirming his commitment to "Make America Great Again."
