A heartbreaking air collision over Washington DC on Wednesday evening took the lives of several notable figures from the figure skating community. Onboard the flight were six individuals connected to the Figure Skating Club of Boston, including prominent Russian coaches Yevgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov. Local officials have reported that the aircraft, which was carrying 64 passengers, collided with a US Army helicopter shortly after 9 PM, resulting in more than 28 confirmed fatalities. Shishkova and Naumov, former world champions in pairs skating, were traveling with young skaters and their mothers after attending a development camp in Wichita, Kansas. As recovery operations continue in the frigid Potomac River, the figure skating community is grappling with the huge loss and its impact.
