Airbnb Expands Offerings with Luxury Services on New App
Airbnb revamps its app to include luxury services like personal chefs and massages, enhancing traveler experiences.
In a groundbreaking update, Airbnb is seeking to enhance traveler experiences by introducing a host of luxury services to its redesigned app. Users will now be able to book appointments with personal trainers, massages, and private chefs, reflecting Airbnb’s ambition to bridge the gap between rental spaces and hotel-style services.
The company’s CEO, Brian Chesky, stated, “People choose hotels for their services. People choose Airbnbs for the space... now, we're giving you the best of both worlds.” This update comes at a time when Airbnb is encouraging greater customization for travelers, especially in light of fluctuating consumer sentiment due to unpredictable economic circumstances.
Despite its impressive history of over two billion guests since its inception in 2008, Airbnb has experienced roadblocks, particularly as numerous cities impose restrictions on short-term rentals. The newly introduced luxury services will be priced from below $50 (£37.57) and can be booked by anyone, regardless of their accommodation choice.
Adding to the app’s new features, Airbnb has updated its experiences tab, which allows guests to book unique tours and activities tailored to their preferences. This development is particularly relevant as travelers increasingly seek itineraries that offer bespoke experiences rather than traditional tourist activities.
Gary Bowerman, director of travel marketing firm Check-in Asia, noted the shift in traveler mindset: "Travellers are now thinking much more about how to customize the trip for themselves." This sentiment is echoed by luxury travel consultant Anastasia Oriordan, who remarked on the evolving standards for unique experiences.
Among the exclusive offerings highlighted on the revamped app is an "originals tab," showcasing unique experiences around the globe, including the chance to play beach volleyball with Olympian Carol Solberg in Rio de Janeiro or spend a Sunday afternoon with NFL star Patrick Mahomes. As travelers become more adventurous and discerning, Airbnb aims to cater to their growing demand for extraordinary experiences, illustrating a notable trend in the luxury travel sector.
