Reports indicate that the incident occurred at Khan's residence early Thursday morning, during a confrontation with an unidentified assailant. Following the attack, Khan was rushed to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and is currently on the mend.
According to preliminary details, police have collected CCTV footage from Khan’s home located in the affluent Bandra neighborhood. Early assessments suggest that the attacker may have intended to commit theft. The identity of the detained individual in relation to the attempted burglary is yet to be confirmed.
Witnesses have begun to provide their accounts, including Eliyama Philip, a nurse employed at Khan's residence, who was present during the incident. Her narrative, shared with local authorities, recounts her experience of noticing a shadowy figure holding a wooden object and a knife. Philip reported that the intruder threatened her and the child she was caring for while demanding an exorbitant sum of money amounting to 10 million rupees (approximately $115,477).
During the chaos, a struggle ensued, resulting in injuries for both Khan and Philip. After the alarm was raised, Khan, alongside his wife, actress Kareena Kapoor, confronted the assailant, who then fled the scene after inflicting injuries on Khan. He sustained multiple wounds, particularly a serious injury involving the back of his neck, where a piece of the knife was lodged.
Dr. Nitin Dange, who is overseeing Khan's recovery at Lilavati Hospital, stated that timely medical intervention was crucial in preventing serious spinal damage. Khan has since made significant progress and has been moved out of the intensive care unit. Nevertheless, doctors have advised him to rest and limit his movements for at least a week.
Deputy Commissioner of Mumbai Police, Dixit Gadam, confirmed the ongoing investigation and mentioned that the weapon used in the attack has not yet been located. Authorities are also looking into how the assailant accessed the home, highlighting that the intruder utilized the fire escape ladder for entry.
