A deadly fire in a southern Seoul apartment complex has left one dead and several injured, prompting police to seek the arsonist responsible.
In a devastating incident in southern Seoul, South Korean police are on the lookout for a suspected arsonist following a fire that resulted in one fatality and multiple injuries. The fire broke out early on Monday morning in a 21-story apartment complex located in the Bongcheon district. Firefighters received the call at approximately 8:17 a.m. and swiftly responded to the scene, with reports indicating that a significant portion of the building was enveloped in smoke, particularly on the fourth floor.
Tragically, a man was found deceased at the scene, having suffered severe burns. In addition, two residents, elderly women in their 70s and 80s, are currently hospitalized with serious injuries after they fell from the building’s fourth floor during the chaos. Several other individuals experienced health issues linked to smoke inhalation.
Investigating authorities in the Gwanak borough, which encompasses the Bongcheon area, reported witness accounts describing a male suspect in his 60s who allegedly ignited the fire using a pesticide sprayer filled with a combustible substance. The situation has raised concerns in the community, emphasized by the urgent call for information and the swift pursuit of the suspect as the investigation progresses.
