Nigerian Super Falcons celebrated with cash and gifts after winning the Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu has promised each member of the victorious Super Falcons a cash reward of $100,000 and a three-bedroom apartment following their triumph at the Women's Africa Cup of Nations, amidst past concerns about the fulfillment of such promises.

The Nigerian Super Falcons were celebrated on their return from Morocco after clinching their tenth Wafcon title in a thrilling match. At a reception held at the Aso Rock presidential residence in Abuja, President Bola Tinubu expressed his pride in the team's achievements. The president’s commitment includes a cash bonus of $100,000 each for the 24 players along with a three-bedroom apartment, in a gesture to honor their hard work and dedication.

Tinubu commended the Super Falcons for their extraordinary victory, highlighting their resilience, stating that their win represented "courage, determination, and consistency." The players responded with cheers upon hearing the news, aware that previous government promises to athletes often went unfulfilled. Notably, the Super Falcons made an impressive comeback to defeat Morocco 3-2 in the finals, marking a significant milestone in their history.

The team was welcomed home with fervor, entertained by traditional dancers and escorted to the presidential residence. Tinubu awarded national honors to each player and staff member, recognizing their contribution to Nigerian sports. Captain Rasheedat Ajibade spoke on behalf of her teammates, dedicating the victory to young girls across Nigeria and aspiring to elevate the team's status in global football.

Despite the jubilation surrounding their recent achievements, there remains skepticism regarding the government's follow-through on promises of financial rewards, as both the men's and women's teams have experienced challenges in receiving timely compensation for their efforts in the past. The ongoing discussions about pay equity between male and female athletes in Nigeria reflect broader societal issues, with fans advocating for equal treatment. As significant as the president's assurances are, the promise of honor and financial security remains a critical topic as the Super Falcons continue their legacy in African sports.
