Grenoble Bar Grenade Attack Leaves 12 Injured, Investigation Underway
A violent incident in a Grenoble establishment has raised concerns and initiated investigations.
A grenade explosion at the Aksehir bar in Grenoble on Wednesday evening has left twelve people wounded, according to local officials. The attack occurred shortly after 20:00 local time, thrusting the popular venue, known for hosting locals and football fans, into chaos. Two individuals are reported to be in critical condition, as the full extent of injuries continues to unfold.
Investigation into the motive of the attack remains ongoing, although authorities suggest it may be related to a “settling of scores.” Prosecutor Francois Touret-de-Courcey revealed that eyewitnesses described an unidentified suspect who may have also been armed with a Kalashnikov assault rifle. He emphasized that there is no indication that the incident is terror-related, labeling it an “act of extreme violence."
The scene was met with a swift response from approximately 80 firefighters and police officers, establishing a secure perimeter around the bar, especially critical in the aftermath of the incident. Deputy Mayor Chloe Pantel remarked on the venue’s significance in the community, noting its popularity among both locals and visitors.
Mayor Eric Piolle condemned the incident as a “criminal act of extraordinary violence” and expressed gratitude towards the rescue and security forces for their prompt response. Authorities have indicated that police presence will remain elevated in the area to ensure community safety as the investigation progresses.
