A bus crashed on the Red Sea coast in eastern Egypt, killing at least 16 people and injuring 28 others, the Ministry of Health said on Wednesday morning.
The accident took place on the road connecting the tourist towns of Dahab and Nuweiba in the South Sinai governorate, an area frequented by both local and international visitors.
Around 20 ambulances were dispatched to the site, providing first‑aid and evacuating the wounded, though the cause of the crash is still unknown.
Road accidents remain a major public‑health issue in Egypt: authorities recorded nearly 6,000 fatal crashes last year, most attributed to reckless driving and poor road maintenance.
The incident follows a tragedy last month in the Ismailia governorate, where two lorries collided, killing 18 and injuring 30.
