A Russian drone has slammed into a block of flats in eastern Kyiv, killing six people and wounding dozens of others, during a wave of strikes throughout the Ukrainian capital.
As emergency workers sifted through the wreckage in the Lisovyi area, one Kyiv resident named Vita described how the drone had pierced the building, exploding on the other side.
Meanwhile, Ukraine stepped up its attacks on Russia's oil infrastructure, launching drone strikes on one of its largest export terminals in Novorossiysk on the Black Sea coast.
Fire broke out at the Sheskharis oil refinery, damaging a ship and a residential block, officials reported.
In response to the attack, Krasnodar governor Veniamin Kondratyev stated that three crew members and another man had been hurt, as the strike affected the main oil depot and a container terminal.
Mayor Andrei Kravchenko announced a state of emergency, with reports detailing a suspension of oil exports.
President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed that Ukraine had deployed long-range Long Neptune cruise missiles in its assaults on Russia overnight, although he did not specify their targets.
Condemning Russia's overnight attacks as vile and calculated, Zelensky reported that around 430 drones and 18 missiles had been launched, causing damage to numerous high-rise buildings.
The drone that hit the Kyiv residential building struck the seventh floor, leading to the collapse of multiple floors below. Witnesses reported the grim reality as bodies were pulled from the debris.
In terms of emergency response, more than 40 individuals were rescued, including those trapped in fires exacerbated by the attack. Amid this chaos, Kyiv's energy infrastructure suffered significant damage, leaving some without heat.
The mayor stated that nine people were being treated in hospitals, with one in critical condition.
The attacks indicate a continuing conflict, as Russia claims its focus is on military targets, a contention that Ukraine has repeatedly disputed.
