At least 22 Palestinians have been killed in a series of Israeli airstrikes across northern and central Gaza, according to Hamas medical and civil defense officials.
They reported that five sites were targeted, including residential homes, and among those deceased was a senior Hamas commander.
The Israeli military stated that the strikes were in response to an incident earlier on Saturday, where they claimed an armed terrorist fired at soldiers after crossing the Strip's designated border. However, Hamas has denied these allegations.
Both sides have accused each other of breaching a ceasefire agreement established six weeks prior to these events.
Since the ceasefire began, over 310 Palestinians have reportedly lost their lives due to Israeli strikes, according to Gaza's health ministry.
Details from the strikes indicate significant damage and loss of life, particularly in Gaza City, Deir al-Balah, and Nuseirat camp. Victims included entire families targeted in residential areas.
The office of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that the strikes were a necessary response to continued violations of the ceasefire by Hamas.
In retaliation, Hamas warned that Israel's actions were undermining the ceasefire accord, urging international mediators to take action against Israel's military operations.
This conflict resurgence follows a recent attack by Hamas that killed numerous individuals in southern Israel, which led to the ongoing Israeli military campaign in Gaza.
According to health ministry reports, approximately 69,500 individuals have died in Israeli attacks on Gaza since the commencement of hostilities in October 2023.
