Masked Man in Chucky‑Like Costume Targets Philadelphia Residents, Police on the Hunt
Police in Philadelphia revealed on Tuesday that a man in a creepy doll mask has been stalking residents around City Hall, shouting threats and running up to people it allegedly chased at least half a dozen people last week. The suspect was captured on surveillance video wearing a scary mask and asking a woman if she was ready to die. Police released the photos and a video of the suspect, asking the public for help identifying him.
During an encounter on 12 August, around 5:30 local time, the masked man was seen chasing a woman on a morning run. He spoke threatening remarks while keeping his hand behind his back, causing her to stumble and injure herself before he fled into an underground rail station.
Captain Jason Smith told CBS that the suspect appears to be filming the incidents, holding a phone with its light on. He added it is unclear whether this is part of a social media trend.
Charges against the suspect include terroristic threats, simple assault and other offenses.
Responding residents, such as Luanda Marinho, who met a friend for a run, described the man’s behavior as a twisted chase, mentioning that he repeatedly asked if anyone wanted to race him. The police urge anyone who may have seen the man or has additional footage to contact authorities immediately.
