In brief
Clash between PSG and Lyon has been pushed back to Monday after French police raised security concerns, citing large public protests and a major NFL match that will demand extensive police resources. The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) made the ruling following the authorities' prohibition of the Sunday fixture. The postponement follows over 550,000 protesters taking to the streets last Saturday, while the league’s schedule has already been altered for other teams. PSG now sits second in the table, 14 points behind Lyon, and the rescheduled match will coincide with a Ballon d’Or ceremony in London.
The Ligue 1 clash between Paris St‑Germain and Lyon has been moved from its original Sunday 19:45 GMT slot to 20:30 on Monday.
The Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP) announced the postponement after French police stopped the match, citing serious security concerns ahead of a weekend of large‑scale demonstrations.
France saw more than 550,000 people protest the high cost of living, rising fuel prices and education standards, sparking clashes and property damage in several cities.
The change is compounded by an NFL match between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New Orleans Saints at the Stade de France, which will require a huge police presence and is scheduled for the same weekend.
Other fixtures have already been shuffled – Toulouse’s home game against Troyes was moved from Saturday to Sunday on government instructions – as the league reforms its calendar.
PSG occupy second place in the table, 14 points adrift of Lyon, and the rescheduled match will now match the date of the Ballon d’Or ceremony in London, where PSG stars Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia are likely contenders.
