LOS ANGELES (AP) — Michele Singer Reiner, a photographer and producer who inspired the happy conclusion in the 1980s romantic comedy “When Harry Met Sally…” has died.

Reiner and her husband, director Rob Reiner, were found dead Sunday at their home in the Brentwood neighborhood of Los Angeles. The Los Angeles Fire Department reported responding to a medical aid request shortly after 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, discovering a 78-year-old man and a 68-year-old woman inside. Their 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, is currently in custody in connection with the deaths.

Rob Reiner and Michele Singer met during the filming of “When Harry Met Sally...” and he once shared with The Guardian in 2018 that meeting her inspired him to change the movie’s ending to a happier one.

“Originally, Harry and Sally didn’t get together. But then I met Michele and I thought: OK, I see how this works,” he recalled.

During an interview with The New York Times in 1989, Rob Reiner mentioned that cinematographer Barry Sonnenfeld had predicted he would marry Michele even before their relationship began. She was present on set during a pivotal argument scene.

Michele Singer Reiner was a producer for notable projects including “Spinal Tap II: The End Continues,” “God & Country,” and “Shock and Awe,” showcasing her versatile contributions to film and media. The couple married in 1989 and had three children: Nick, Jake, and Romy.
