Tens of thousands of residents in Washoe County were ordered to evacuate as a large wildfire quickly moved toward Reno’s outskirts. The blaze, first reported at 11:15 a.m. local time on Saturday, has now burned roughly 10,500 acres and remains 0 % contained.

Authorities have told about 42,000 people to leave home immediately, while another 45,000 residents have been urged to prepare to evacuate. The fire was caused by humans and has already injured six people, including three emergency responders.

Nevada Governor Joe Lombardo declared a state of emergency in Washoe County and ordered the National Guard to join firefighting and law‑enforcement efforts. "This is an active and rapidly evolving situation and I urge everyone in the affected areas to remain vigilant and follow the direction of local officials," he said.

Around 13,700 homes fall inside the evacuation zone, and two shelters have been set up to accommodate displaced residents. All Washoe County schools will be closed on Monday, except one, and mass road closures are in place.
