Five more suspects have been arrested over their involvement in the Louvre heist, Paris' public prosecutor has confirmed.
Officials announced the arrests occurred Wednesday night in the Paris region, with a significant suspect being among those apprehended.
This latest wave of arrests follows reports that two other men had 'partially recognised' their involvement in the sensational theft earlier this week.
On October 19, thieves brazenly broke into the world’s most-visited museum, successfully stealing jewels worth €88 million (£76 million; $102 million). They executed the heist in broad daylight, raising concerns about security measures at such a prominent cultural site.
As of today, the stolen jewels have not yet been recovered. However, the prosecutor indicated that DNA evidence from one of the suspects might be linked to the crime scene.
The investigation is ongoing, with officials revealing that the gang involved could potentially consist of more members than the four initially identified on surveillance footage.
Reportedly, the new suspects can be held for up to four days for questioning before they must either be charged or released, allowing for further development of the case.
