People escape historic Kyiv building hit by Russian drone

An historic building in Kyiv was struck by a Russian drone, igniting a blaze that caused one death and three injuries.

Evacuations were carried out via window openings while firefighters struggled to contain the flames as thick black smoke billowed.

The incident was reported by Kyiv mayor Vitaliy Klitschko and observed by BBC diplomatic correspondent Paul Adams, who documented the emergency operations.

The event underscores the heightened risks facing civilians amid the ongoing war in Ukraine and continued targeting of cultural heritage sites.
