PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Philadelphia police found human remains Saturday in their search for a 23-year-old woman who disappeared from her nursing home job about two weeks ago.
Police held a news conference Saturday to give an update on the disappearance of Kada Scott and released a statement saying investigators “recovered human remains believed to be” hers. However, John Stanford, deputy commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department, did not confirm the identity of the remains found in a wooded area behind an abandoned school.
An anonymous tip led police to the area they had previously searched, according to Stanford. The remains, believed to be those of a woman, were discovered in a shallow grave, suggesting the person had been deceased for several days.
“We are not going to confirm, at this point, that it is Kada Scott because that has to be verified by the medical examiner’s office,” he stated. “There’s still a lot of work to be done.”
Stanford mentioned that investigators were in touch with Scott’s family regarding the developments but refrained from addressing specific questions due to the ongoing investigation.
Police spokeswoman Tanya Little stated that there were no updates as of Sunday. A message left for the medical examiner’s office was not immediately answered.
The case has raised concerns about the justice system. Keon King, a 21-year-old arrested and charged with kidnapping and stalking in connection with Scott’s disappearance, had previously been released after facing charges in a similar case earlier this year.
King's bail is set at $2.5 million. He remains in custody and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing next month. His defense attorney has not responded to requests for comments.
