A devastating bus accident in South Africa's Limpopo province has resulted in the deaths of 42 people, predominantly Zimbabwean and Malawian nationals. The tragedy unfolded on Sunday night when the bus, which was transporting passengers from Gqeberha in the Eastern Cape back to their homes, overturned while navigating a mountainous section of the N1 highway.
Authorities report that the bus veered off the roadway and fell down a steep embankment. Among the deceased, seven children were noted, contributing to the heavy loss felt across both Zimbabwe and Malawi. South African President Cyril Ramaphosa extended condolences, labeling the incident a dual tragedy for both nations.
Reports indicate that the exact cause of the accident remains unclear, prompting officials to launch an extensive investigation. Alongside the fatalities, 49 people sustained injuries in the accident, leading to plans for government officials, including Transport Minister Barbara Creecy, to visit the crash site and assist the injured.
