The World Humanoid Robot Games, held on a newly built track in Beijing, saw the Chinese-made robot Lightning finish the 100‑metre dash in a staggering 9.32 seconds. This time beats the best human performance of 9.58 seconds set by 8‑time Olympic gold medallist Usain Bolt in 2009.
While the robot’s run was captured by a real‑time livestream video and not a photo finish, the manufacturer claims the device’s speed surpasses any human sprint record.
