Russian Forces Advance on Pokrovsk Amidst Foggy Conditions

The fog has enabled Russian troops to push deeper into Pokrovsk, a key strategic city in eastern Ukraine, complicating the ongoing conflict and threatening Ukrainian defensive positions.

In recent developments, Russian forces have intensified their efforts to capture the strategic city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, leveraging thick fog to advance undetected. Ukraine's military has reported increased Russian troop movements, as weather conditions have hindered aerial reconnaissance and facilitated attacks. With Russian forces potentially encircling the city, the situation remains critical for Ukrainian defenders.

Thick fog has enabled Russian troops to move further into the key strategic city of Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine. Ukraine's 7th Airborne Assault Corps indicates that these weather conditions have encouraged Moscow to increase troop deployments into the city to encircle Ukrainian forces.

Russian forces have been attempting to seize Pokrovsk for over a year. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky noted that the fog has favored Russian operations, complicating the military situation considerably.

Meanwhile, army chief Oleksandr Syrskyi warned of a significant deterioration along the front line in the southeastern Zaporzhzhia region, mentioning the loss of three settlements to Russian forces.

Syrskyi emphasized that the bulk of Russian activity is centered around Pokrovsk. A viral video has shown Russian soldiers operating under foggy conditions, driving through a road in civilian vehicles, a move that typically would be met with immediate drone strikes from Ukrainian forces.

Visibility issues from the fog have hampered aerial reconnaissance capabilities, which allowed Russian troops to advance in columns of vehicles, a tactic that would otherwise be highly risky.

Despite detecting and eliminating small advancing Russian groups, Ukrainian drone pilot 'Goose' revealed that the fog hindered monitoring of a recent repelled attack. The 7th Corps estimates there are currently around 300 Russian soldiers in Pokrovsk, a number likely to have increased.

Pokrovsk appears to be on the verge of falling under full Russian control, as mapping by the DeepState monitoring group shows that most areas of the city are now in dispute. Ukrainian defenders report that the frontline continues to shift dangerously close, complicating efforts to maintain control.

As the Russian army aims to encircle both Pokrovsk and the nearby town of Myrnohrad, Ukraine has pushed back forces from Suvorove and Rodynske to create more space between advancing Russian flanks.

Infiltrations are being conducted by Russian forces who, at times, disguise themselves as civilians or members of the Ukrainian military, causing confusion and disarray, potentially leading to more significant pushbacks from Russian forces.
