In brief

A devastating arson on the outskirts of Waterford killed Philip and Kim English and their two children. Three men and women were arrested in connection to the blaze. Gardaí announced that two women in their 30s and a man in his 50s were freed without charge, following an internal review. A fourth suspect, a man in his 20s, still remains in custody as the investigation proceeds.

Three people linked to the fatal arson that killed four members of the English family on the outskirts of Waterford were released without charge, Gardaí said on Tuesday.

The blaze took the lives of parents Philip and Kim English and their two children, 9‑year‑old Jayden and 12‑year‑old Callum, when the Birch Avenue home was set on fire earlier this month.

A man in his 20s and a woman in her 30s were the first suspects charged. Later, two women in their 30s and a man in his 50s were detained following a renewed investigation.

Both Gardaí confirm the three arrested on Tuesday have been freed after an internal review; however, a fourth man in his 20s, detained on Thursday, remains in custody.

The incident has drawn nationwide attention to fire safety and the legal processes surrounding violent arson in Ireland.
