US launches fresh strikes on Iran amid rising Strait tensions

Vessels were visible across the Strait of Hormuz from Oman this week.

American forces renewed airstrikes against Iranian targets in the Strait of Hormuz after Iranian forces reportedly threatened retaliation.

U.S. Central Command issued a statement saying that strikes began at 12:00 ET, targeting designated IRGC positions linked to attacks on commercial shipping.

Iranian state media reported that four projectiles struck the coastal provinces of Chabahar and Konarak, while multiple explosions were heard in Qeshm Island, Bandar Abbas and Konarak.

President Donald Trump described the operations as “large and powerful” and warned that Iran’s retaliation would provoke an even harder response.

According to IRGC spokesperson Hossein Mohebbi, Tehran will “regret” the attacks and the U.S. will face severe punishment for targeting Iranian assets.

These strikes follow the first known U.S. attacks earlier this month, when forces hit two rocket launchers on Larak Island.
