More than 100,000 Ukrainian homes have been left without power due to the latest Russian drone attacks on energy infrastructure, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky.

The affected areas include the Poltava, Sumy, and Chernihiv regions. Zelensky described this campaign as part of Moscow's policy aimed at disrupting civilian infrastructure ahead of the winter season. This follows last year's destruction of half of Ukraine's electricity-generating capacity by Russian military actions.

Despite these assaults, Ukraine has also retaliated, with operations targeting Russian refineries and an oil depot.

In his recent communications, Zelensky noted that nearly 100 drone strikes occurred overnight, predominantly focused on energy facilities. However, civilian structures, including a school in the Kharkiv region and a residential high-rise in Kherson, suffered damages.

“New steps are needed to impose pressure on Russia to cease these strikes and to secure genuine safety for our citizens. We are collaborating with partners to strengthen such pressures,” Zelensky stated.

Three and a half years into the conflict prompted by Russia's full-scale invasion, combat activities seem to persist unabated. Reports have indicated a notable incursion of Russian troops into the Dnipropetrovsk region, marking the first such event in this area.

In addition, Russian defense officials announced the seizure of a village in Donetsk. Despite suffering high casualty rates, Russian forces have achieved recent territorial advances.
