NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Country music star Morgan Wallen has vehemently denied allegations of throwing a chair off the roof of a Nashville honky-tonk bar, according to police footage obtained by the Associated Press. The video shows Wallen denying the charges both before and after his arrest in April 2024, where he was charged with reckless endangerment.
In the weeks following his arrest, Wallen took to social media to express regret for his actions, stating, I’m not proud of my behavior, and I accept responsibility, and indicated that he had made amends with local law enforcement. By December, he pled guilty to two counts of reckless endangerment.
The Metro Nashville Police Department released the arrest footage as part of a public records request, revealing detailed interactions between Wallen and officers at the scene of the incident. According to the footage, moments after a chair fell from the bar’s roof, officers engaged with Wallen, who insisted he had not seen the incident.
A broken chair was found near a police cruiser, and upon questioning, witnesses suggested they saw Wallen throw it off the roof. Despite denying the action during initial questioning, Wallen later issued apologies, noting that he didn’t intend to cause any problems.
The event draws attention not only to Wallen’s recent controversies but also to his stature in the country music industry. After significant hits in 2023 and 2024, Wallen remains one of the most successful figures in contemporary country music, while simultaneously confronting legal and social challenges stemming from his past behavior.
