British National Charged with Attempted Murder After Pool Incident in Florida
A British man faces severe charges after an alleged attempted drowning of his daughter-in-law during a family vacation in Florida.
A British man has been charged with attempted murder after allegedly trying to drown his daughter-in-law in a Florida swimming pool. Mark Gibbon, 62, was on holiday with his family at the Solterra Resort in Davenport, near Walt Disney World Resort, when the disagreement over his grandchildren erupted, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Gibbon, hailing from Beaconsfield in Buckinghamshire, reportedly pushed and held the 33-year-old woman’s head underwater multiple times, preventing her from breathing. He has been charged with attempted second-degree murder and two counts of battery. Sheriff Grady Judd remarked, "It’s great that Polk County draws visitors from all across the world, but we expect vacationers to behave while they visit with us, just as we expect our lifelong residents to do the same. Because Mr. Gibbon couldn’t control his anger, he may find himself spending a lot more time in Florida than he had anticipated."
The altercation began when the two started arguing in the pool regarding Gibbon’s grandchildren. In a bid to intervene, a young girl jumped into the pool, attempting to stop Gibbon from drowning the woman. The situation came to a halt only when two holidaying sisters next door informed Mr. Gibbon that they had called the sheriff's department. Following the incident, Gibbon was arrested and has been taken to Polk County Jail, further underscoring the serious nature of this case.
