In a dramatic weather event, southern Spain experienced a staggering rainfall that equated to a month's worth of precipitation in just a single day. This catastrophic storm unleashed its fury late Monday night, hitting major agricultural zones such as El Ejido in Andalusia, where farmers like Manuel Yerai witnessed devastating losses.

Mr. Yerai saw hailstones the size of tennis balls destroy his greenhouses and shatter windows nearby. “It looks like my farm was attacked, and the aftermath is heartbreaking,” he shared, highlighting the grim scene of numerous dead birds scattered on the ground.

The deluge has been widespread, affecting numerous cities, including Valencia, Murcia, and Malaga. As reported by Spain’s meteorological agency, certain areas received between 150 to 200 liters of rainfall per square meter within a mere two-hour window. This is an unprecedented figure, amounting to four times more than the average rainfall for the entire month of October in these regions.

Meteorologist Rubén del Campo characterized this weather event as a grave risk, urging residents to avoid unnecessary travel during this extreme weather situation. With forecasts indicating the possibility of continued rainfall through the week, concerns are rising over potential further disruptions and damage across the affected areas.
