Ridah Bin Saleh al-Yazidi, a detainee at Guantanamo Bay, has been repatriated to Tunisia, as confirmed by the US Department of Defense. This transfer followed what the Pentagon described as a "rigorous interagency review process," which determined his eligibility for transfer from the notorious detention facility.

The Pentagon, however, did not disclose whether al-Yazidi accepted any guilt regarding the charges against him. Since its inception in 2002, Guantanamo Bay has been utilized to hold individuals deemed unlawful combatants in the U.S. government's ongoing "war on terror." Located at a US naval base in southeastern Cuba, the facility has faced significant scrutiny for its treatment of detainees and the legal processes employed.

As of the latest update from the Pentagon, 26 detainees remain at Guantanamo Bay, with 14 of those individuals eligible for transfer to their home countries or third-party nations. This repatriation of al-Yazidi highlights ongoing efforts by the US to downsize the detention population, as discussions around the fate of remaining detainees continue.
