Prince Harry Faces Bullying Allegations from Charity Co-Founder
Sophie Chandauka claims Prince Harry's resignation from Sentebale aimed to undermine the charity she leads.
An escalating feud emerged within the charity Sentebale, co-founded by Prince Harry, when chairperson Sophie Chandauka accused the prince of bullying and harassment. Following Harry's abrupt resignation as patron, Chandauka asserted that his actions were intended to undermine the charity's progress after he failed to remove her from her leadership role.
In a candid interview with Sky News, Chandauka expressed her distress, questioning the impact of Harry's departure on her and the charity's stakeholders. “Can you imagine what that attack has done for me, on me, and the 540 individuals in the Sentebale organizations and their family?” she asked. “That is an example of harassment and bullying at scale.”
The spokesperson for Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, declined to comment on the allegations made by Chandauka, which were shared during the program “Sunday Morning with Trevor Phillips.”
Sentebale, established in 2006 in memory of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana, primarily focuses on supporting young people affected by the HIV epidemic in Lesotho. Over the years, the organization has expanded its outreach to Botswana, addressing various issues impacting youth, including climate change, substance abuse, and gender violence.
Harry's resignation coincided with a wider upheaval within the charity's board, where five out of nine members had already stepped down amid reported tensions. The prince described the broken relationship with Chandauka as “irretrievably ruptured”, prompting his decision to leave the organization. The unfolding dispute signals a profound change in the dynamics of the charity and raises questions about its future operations.
