Judicial Watch Sues DHS Over Trump Assassination Attempt Records

Judicial Watch, a conservative legal organization, has initiated a lawsuit against the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), demanding the release of documents connected to the July 13, 2024 assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump during a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

The lawsuit was filed after DHS failed to respond to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request made soon after Thomas Crooks opened fire at the event, which resulted in injuries to Trump and the tragic death of an attendee. While Judicial Watch has successfully obtained some local records, including police body-cam footage and internal communications from the Butler County District Attorney, the group claims that federal agencies have been uncooperative in providing crucial information.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton stated, “Federal agencies need to come clean on the events that led up to the assassination attempt on President Trump. It’s been eight months, and the American people still have no answers on how this happened under the Biden administration’s watch.” As discussions about federal security failures escalate, this lawsuit could be pivotal in achieving transparency and accountability regarding the significant security breach that occurred during Trump’s campaign events.
