A significant blaze in a high-rise residential building in Buenos Aires forces the evacuation of over 100 residents, with reports of injuries due to smoke inhalation.
More than 100 residents were evacuated from a high-rise residential tower in Puerto Madero, Buenos Aires, following a fire that affected several floors. According to emergency services, approximately 40 individuals were treated for smoke inhalation, with some requiring hospitalization, though the fire was eventually brought under control. The cause of the incident has not yet been identified.
The luxury 50-floor building, located in a affluent area of the city, saw flames extend as high as the 15th floor, causing broken glass to fall from windows, according to Alberto Crescenti, the head of Buenos Aires’ emergency services. "Fortunately, the evacuation proceeded quickly, ensuring the safety of residents," he stated.
Among the residents was Ornella Gril, a 30-year-old who reported hearing the fire alarm and promptly evacuated the building. Ex-football player Mariano Pavone, who resides in the complex, recounted how he noticed smoke and evacuated with his son and dog, expressing concern for his neighbors but relief that his apartment remained unharmed.
Emergency responders confirmed that all residents are now out of harm's way, allowing the focus to shift towards ascertaining the cause of the fire and assessing the damage incurred.
