Approximately 220 emergency personnel were dispatched to manage the blaze and assist affected patients. In total, more than 35 individuals sustained injuries, with two patients transferred to other medical facilities for care. One of these patients is reported to have life-threatening injuries, while 18 others suffered serious injuries and an additional 15 individuals experienced minor wounds.
Hospital staff at Marienkrankenhaus provided treatment for some of the injured within the facility's emergency room. Upon arrival, firefighters discovered flames engulfing a ground floor room, threatening to spread to adjacent areas.
Numerous patients were seen struggling to escape the smoke-filled environment, coming to their windows to seek help. The hospital building consists of four floors, which posed significant challenges for those with mobility issues.
Utilizing specialized equipment such as turntable and portable ladders, firefighters executed rescues, while others helped patients navigate safe corridors with fire escape hoods designed for use in dense smoke. Their prompt action prevented the fire from extending to other rooms within the facility. The exact cause of the fire remains undetermined at present.
