Five Individuals Charged in Connection with Liam Payne's Tragic Death
The investigation into the tragic death of pop star Liam Payne has led to charges against five individuals in Argentina, including hotel staff and a close friend.
Five individuals have been charged in connection with the recent death of One Direction's Liam Payne, according to reports from local media in Argentina. The 31-year-old singer tragically fell from a third-floor hotel balcony in Buenos Aires on October 16, 2023.
Among those charged are hotel manager Gilda Martin and employee Esteban Grassi, along with Roger Nores, a friend of Payne's. Authorities have charged both Braian Paiz and Ezequiel Pereyra, who reportedly also worked at the hotel, with supplying drugs. As stated by Argentina's National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor's Office, two of the accused have been ordered to remain in custody and are expected to appear in court within 24 hours, according to the Argentinian news platform Infobae.
As the investigation continues, Argentinian authorities are scrutinizing Payne's last days at the CasaSur hotel. Prior announcements indicated that charges had been filed previously against another trio, although their names had not been released then. Speaking to TMZ following the singer's death, Roger Nores described their time together just before the incident, stating that Payne appeared "playful and happy."
Subsequent police investigations found substances in Payne's hotel room, along with evidence of damage to the room's furniture. Emergency services had been alerted twice about a guest who had allegedly consumed "too many drugs and alcohol" and was causing a disturbance. The prosecutor's office noted that toxicology tests revealed traces of alcohol, cocaine, and an antidepressant in Payne's system at the time of his death.
A post-mortem examination concluded that the cause of death was "multiple trauma" resulting from the fall, with reports suggesting that Payne may have fallen in a state of semi-consciousness. This finding led investigators to rule out the possibility of any intentional act, indicating that he likely was not aware of his actions at the time.
Liam Payne rose to fame as part of the boyband One Direction after appearing on The X Factor in the early 2010s. Following the band's hiatus in January 2016, he forged a successful solo career. Payne was laid to rest in Amersham, Buckinghamshire, last month, attended by his bandmates, girlfriend Kate Cassidy, and his former partner Cheryl, with whom he shares a son.
