Incident Details

At 19:27 local time on Thursday, a private bus carrying lorry drivers struck a stationary freight train at the loading platform near Coquelles, on the French side of the Channel Tunnel. The crash left 19 people injured, including the driver and 18 passengers; two were taken to the hospital by helicopter after a rapid evacuation.

Local sub‑prefect Agathe Cury confirmed that freight and Eurostar passenger traffic through the tunnel was not disrupted, apart from a brief stoppage that allowed emergency crews to reach the site. Eurostar issued a statement reassuring passengers that the incident, located several kilometres from the tunnel, had no impact on its trains to and from London.

All victims are reported to be men of varying nationalities, and authorities are continuing investigations into the cause of the collision. Emergency services are currently clearing the site and restoring normal traffic flow.
