ENID, Okla. — A devastating tornado struck Enid, Oklahoma, on Thursday, causing extensive damage throughout the city and sending emergency crews into action. The tornado, confirmed by the National Weather Service, moved swiftly through the area, impacting homes and businesses and leaving many residents in distress.

Officials reported that the tornado ravaged parts of Enid, a city of roughly 50,000 residents located near the northern border of Oklahoma. Eyewitness footage captured the alarming sight of the tornado as it made landfall, with many homes reported as destroyed.

As of Thursday evening, there were no immediate fatalities reported, although minor injuries were noted, according to the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office. In response to the destruction, authorities initiated door-to-door checks to ensure the safety of local residents.

Mayor David Mason reported that several individuals were trapped in their homes due to fallen debris, requiring urgent rescue efforts. Some of the most severe damage occurred in the Gray Ridge neighborhood, which is situated on the southern side of the city. We have quite a few homes knocked down in there, Mason noted during an interview with KOCO-TV.

Visuals from the scene depicted piles of rubble where houses once stood, with numerous structures left leveled. One resident, Amy Kuntz, recounted a harrowing experience over the phone with her daughter during the tornado. Get in the bathtub, she advised, only to hear her daughter proclaim moments later, Mom, the roof’s gone, recounting the devastating power of the storm.

Vance Air Force Base, located about 80 miles north of Oklahoma City, also encountered damage, with fences and equipment knocked down. The base has temporarily closed as efforts to restore power and water continue.

Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt expressed solidarity with the impacted community, urging prayers for Enid as it grapples with the aftermath of the tornado. The storm's effects were also felt in neighboring states, including Missouri, where heavy storms caused downed trees and road blockages, though no injuries were reported in that area.
