US border tsar Tom Homan announced that the immigration enforcement surge in Minnesota will come to an end, with President Donald Trump approving the conclusion of the operation. During a recent news conference, Homan stated, I will also remain in Minnesota a little longer to oversee the drawdown, to ensure its success. He noted that cooperation between local officials and federal immigration officers has made Minnesota less of a sanctuary state.

The operation, which saw the deployment of over 2,000 immigration officers in Minnesota, faced national protests following incidents where two US citizens were killed by federal agents. Homan remarked, Officials in Minnesota have been able to 'greatly reduce the number of targets' for immigration enforcement, highlighting the effectiveness of Operation Metro Surge. The operation recorded the arrests of several undocumented immigrants with serious criminal convictions. Homan assured that while operations are scaling down, ICE will maintain a presence in Minnesota to finalize the transition back to local control.
