Canadian actor Kiefer Sutherland has been arrested after allegedly assaulting and threatening a ride-share driver in Hollywood, police have said.
Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) stated that Sutherland entered a ride-share vehicle, physically assaulted the driver (the victim), and made criminal threats during an incident at 00:15 PST (08:15 GMT) on Monday.
Fortunately, the victim did not sustain any injuries, according to LAPD.
Sutherland, 59, was released from custody after posting a bond of $50,000 (£37,000). He is scheduled to appear in court on February 2. The BBC has reached out to his representatives for a comment.
The incident occurred at the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood, and it is currently under investigation by LAPD's Hollywood Division.
Sutherland is well-known for portraying special agent Jack Bauer on the TV series 24 and serving as the US president in Designated Survivor. He is also the son of acclaimed actor Donald Sutherland.
This isn’t Sutherland’s first encounter with the law; he has faced multiple arrests in the past. In 2007, he was sentenced to 48 days in jail for driving under the influence and violating probation. He was also arrested for assault in 2009, but the charge was dropped. His most recent brush with the law prior to this incident occurred in 2020 when he was detained for making an illegal U-turn in Hollywood.
