CARBONDALE, Kan. (AP) — A serious incident unfolded Saturday morning when four law enforcement officers were shot while answering a distress call related to domestic violence in a rural area south of Topeka, Kansas. According to officials from the Kansas Bureau of Investigation, the shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m. Three deputies from Osage County and a trooper from the Kansas Highway Patrol were involved in the confrontation.

The current conditions of the injured officers are described as 'still very fluid', indicating ongoing assessments of their status. Tragically, a male suspect involved in the shooting sustained fatal wounds during the incident, as reported by officials from both the Kansas Bureau of Investigation and the state Highway Patrol.

In addition to the deceased suspect, another male was injured and has since been taken to a hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition. Law enforcement officers were responding to a domestic violence situation when gunfire erupted after they had arrived at the scene for several minutes.

Multiple law enforcement agencies promptly converged on the area following the shooting, which took place near U.S. Highway 75. Officials have reassured the community that there is no ongoing threat following this incident.
