TUCSON, Ariz. — The search for Nancy Guthrie has intensified as investigators return to her neighborhood multiple times, ahead of a new deadline imposed by her alleged abductors through ransom notes.
As the investigation stretches into its second week, uncertainties loom over the fate of the 84-year-old mother of Today show host Savannah Guthrie, who expressed desperation in a video plea, urging the captors to return her mother.
“We beg you now to return our mother to us so that we can celebrate with her,” Savannah said. “This is the only way we will have peace. This is very valuable to us, and we will pay.”
The case has captured national attention, prompting various responses from public figures, including President Trump, and sparking speculation and theories across social media.
Outside Guthrie’s home, local neighbors maintain a presence as deputies oversee the area, while detectives explore various leads. Pima County Sheriff’s Department noted that, as of now, no suspects have been identified.
Evidence suggests Nancy was taken from her home just outside Tucson. She was last seen on January 31 and reported missing the following day. Blood found on her porch, confirmed through DNA testing, raises concerns for her safety.
Ransom letters demanding money have compounded the urgency of the situation, with one deadline passing recently, but authorities have yet to confirm the legitimacy of these letters even as they investigate all incoming tips.
With mounting concerns for Nancy’s health—she requires daily medication and has been known to suffer from heart issues—the pressure on law enforcement tightens. The community rallies with hope for her safe return as officials continue their investigation.
